HXNYC Welcomes You Back at WCC!

Dear Huaxia Families,

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year at HXNYC at WCC! We hope that you and your family had a wonderful summer. The first day of school is this Sunday, September 9th. The school will start at 9:30 am at the campus of Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York. This issue contains many important information. Please read carefully before coming to school so you and your child will have an easier and smoother first day of school. We wish all of you a pleasant and successful year of learning Chinese. Enjoy old friendships and make new ones!

Notices

1. Here is our school calendar and teacher/classroom assignments. Please find out your child’s classroom before coming to school on Sunday. Stay with your child until the teacher confirms your child’s placement in the class.

2. Class-parents for grades K to 3: please come to the storage room before 9:25 am to pick up textbooks for your classes.
Class-parents for grades 4 to 9: please come to the storage room before 10:25 am to pick up the textbooks.

3. For those families who have registered online but have not sent in the tuition check, please bring in your payment on Sunday to the Registration Desk located in AAB 116. You will receive a “Classroom Pass” to pick up textbooks and notebooks (language class only) for your child once the payment is received. You will then take the textbooks and notebooks to your child and hand over the “Classroom Pass” to the teacher.

4. On-site registration will be available if you have not yet registered your child. Please come to the Registration Desk in AAB 116 to complete the registration process before sending your child to the class.

5. If your child’s class is cancelled and you have not yet registered for an alternate class, please go to Registration Desk in AAB 116 to register for the alternate class. We will do our best to help you find a satisfactory alternate. Please check out our website for many other culture classes including the newly added “Space Exploration”.

6. Adult Clubs are open for registration. Please come to AAB 116 to register. Any club that has fewer than 7 people will be cancelled two weeks after school opens. There will be NO adult clubs for the first two weeks.

7. If your child has a Chinese name, and you did not supply it when registering in the On-Line System, please update your account ASAP. Our teachers expect and appreciate Chinese names on the roster on the first day of school.

9. The Gym will not be available until October 7th due to the ongoing renovation.

Important Reminders

1. School Information
The 2012-2013 school calendar and teacher/classroom assignments have been posted on our website http://www.hxnyc.org. They will also be posted on the wall outside of school office in AAB Building. Textbooks and notebooks will be distributed on the first day of class by class parents in the classroom. Please bring basic school supplies such as pencils and erasers to the class.

2. School Administration and Parent Council Teams Please click on the links on Administration Team and Parent Council Team (aka PTA) to learn who the school team members are. They are excited and ready to help you on the first day of the school.

3. Principal DeskThe Principal Desk is to assist school members with their questions, requests, concerns, and suggestions related to HXNYC. It is located outside the AAB 116 and will be manned by rotating members of Administration and PC teams.

4. Parking:

  • Reduce speed to 5mph once you are in the parking lot and yield to pedestrians.
  • Do not drive on the one-way alley adjacent to SCI/AAB backdoors.
  • Do not park in handicapped spot if you do not have a permit. Violators may be issued a traffic ticket by county police and listed on school weekly newsletter.
  • Drop off your child at designated locations only. Do not block the drive path when dropping off your family in the parking lot.
  • Follow the instructions and orders given by the traffic personnel.

5. Code of Conduct (Click here to read):
The goal of these rules is to help students learn to make responsible choices and to promote a safe and civic-minded learning environment.
Please read it with your child and explain the importance of proper behavior. In the next two weeks, a hard copy of “Code of Conduct” will be given to your child. Please review it with your child and have your child return the signed copy to his/her teacher in the following week.
